Hi Dave,

Loving FS Open, really nice network and the tools are great. Keep up the good work.

I remember seeing somewhere, something about getting a dedicated server, but either it's vanished or I imagined it, or my glasses need changed. Hold on a sec! I don't wear glasses!!

Any guidance much appreciated.....regarding the server that is :-p

Andy, Click "HOME" tab at the top left.... good video on how to host/connect to sessions.

IF you are asking how to host and you are thinking of permanently hosting your own session .. would recommend you use 2 PC's... one to host with.. and one to fly on.

Hi Curley,

Thanks for your reply but I'm not sure if we mean the same thing. I already host my own session on a pc. However, I want the little red heart thing which I understand means hosting on an external server (correct me if i'm wrong).

I thought I had already seen something on the site talking about companies that could provide the hosting for you, or maybe I imagined it, which is a possibility :-)

Or is the little red heart purely to do with subscribing for more users? I think I'm confusing myself now.

Cheers

Yes.... the little red heart is primarily for those of us subscribing to have FSOpen Lite support more users. NOT hosting sessions.

There are companies out there that can host FSX for you... however, expensive.

I personally built a PC... and made arrangements for what is called a "co-locate" service.. which means.. they put my PC in a rack and connect to their internet service. That is why I get about 500Mbit down/400Mbit up.. for speeds. I control using TeamViewer as a "remote console" Works great.

At home, I am using a different Internet Provider.. with pretty lousy bandwidth... only option I have where I live.

Brilliant, Thanks Curley, that may just be the route I'll take as I want to house both the FS Open session and Teamspeak on the same server. Not sure my broadband will take too much traffic either as I live out in the sticks.

Who did you use if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers

I use a local profider.. here in Montana.. I also live in the sticks... and the provider that I use at my home will not "co-locate"

Suggest you shop around you area with your local providers... the KEY here is the word "CO-LOCATE" service. MOST IP's will not do this.

I just got way lucky. I had contracted with a company in Texas at 1st... using a regular server.. however... you cannot get a "downloadable" copy of FSX.. to put on those type of servers. So this worked out for me just building a new machine and place at their site. I use my other XP machine at home I've been hosting with for backup... or hosting as a second server, if I need.
