Hi Dave & fsOpen community!

Wingman, from msFlights.net here.

My community members had a great idea, and I'd like to ask about the feasability of that idea here...

We usually do -not- use real-world time in our server. Often, this results in a little trial-and-error when players attempt to find daylight in the server. In hopes of helping them from having to connect, check the time, then re-connect, can we:

Modify the embedded fsOpen Server map as seen on our website so that the current IN-GAME time is reflected by way of a sun/shadow sine-wave? See the following as an example:
http://www.daylightmap.com/

Your thoughts?

Respects,

Wingman

I like it. Will investigate.

In the meantime I'll look at capturing the time from the server to display on the information tab of each session.

Another win over GameSplat :)

Many of the useful FSOoen tools and features remain under the hood or they go unnoticed, unappreciated or taken for granted by our membership. Implementation of daylight map in the FSOpen displays on our forum homepage has immediately met widespread acclaim and appreciation. The decision on where to fly has become much easier to make with this new information graphically represented. Again, from all of the pilots at msFLIGHTS.net, thank you very much for yet another very useful tool, Mr. Wave.

Looks good ... however, 2 problems for me. 1) Day/Night not tied to actual session time. 2) Players aircraft now not being shown in the correct location.

Curley,

You need to restart FSopen server to get the latest version for the maps to work.

Working with Rob to fix.

I think it's servers being fresh installs do not have simconnect on them.

Rob testing for us.

Well, version 0.91 should fix it.

I'm using SimConnect to get the time, for some bizarre reason it wasn't connecting on 30% of machines. I've added a simconnect status line to the bottom of the server. Once your session starts this should turn green if it connects ok.

I've changed the code around and it works on Eastern Hops now. Hopefully it will work on everyone else's too.

If your time is being posted on the session info box now there is no need to update to this version.

Maybe I should clarify.. in my case.. it appears it is picking up the TIME of my server located in Montana, USA.
What I would like to see it pick up is the time set in FSX session... so the map would reflect the actual hours of daylight for the "AREA" we are flying in. In my case Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

If the latest version was to correct that issue.. in my case, it has not.

Curley, on the session info it shows Zulu and local. The map is set on Zulu time.

Yes, Dave... I understand.

However.. The session list however currently shows 20:42 Z, The map sine wave shows the area DARK.

The session local time is 14:02 Z.. in the afternoon and daylight.

That's where I'm coming from. If, someone simply looked at the map... they would think it is dark.. at 9pm Brazil time.. and possibly decide not to fly... of course it is currently in the afternoon. IF, that makes sense.

Local time is wherever the host is. If the host moves timezones local time will change, Zulu stays the same obviously.

It looks like your server picked up the time at some point and then stopped. Its still saying 20:42.

I'd like to have a look at your server to see what's happening.

Probably the fact I lost FSOPEN on the firewall... re-entered Inbound/Outbound again. That will probably sort itself out when I restart. Yeah, I didn't notice it was stuck there.

If you still need in.. jump on my TS and I will TeamView over to the remote console to the server side.

Looks like that fixed the issue. Thanks for jarring me in the head.. I didn't notice the time had stopped.
